Home Mainstreet Project

The Newman Mainstreet Project was an initiative of the Dept of Local Government and Regional Development. It was established in 2001.

The project's aim is to:

  • Build partnerships and encouraging community liaison between Newman community groups.
  • Revitalise and promote Newman for the benefit of the whole community.
  • Encourage a community-based, coordinated approach to improve the economic, social and

physical environment of Newman.

We achieve this aim through the following  projects:

  • Producing Newman News, Newman's independent community newspaper.

  • Running a Christmas Shop Local campaign.
  • Performing gap analysis on local facilities and services.
  • Re-establishing the Newman Outback Drags as part of the Fortescue Festival.

  • Coordinating community art projects
  • Promoting tourism based television advertising
  • Organising and being involved wiith other community projects and events, such as

'Something Fishy' - Barramundi fishing at the Newman Aquatic Centre

'Snow in the Outback' - artificial snow was made in Newman
